Medical Microdermabrasion at MEDISKIN, Nenagh

Microdermabrasion Mediskin

Medical Grade Microdermabrasion is a light cosmetic procedure that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis. Microdermabrasion uses two parts: an exfoliating material in the form of aluminium oxide crystals or diamond flakes, and a machine based vacuum suction to gently lift up the skin during exfoliation. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure with minimum downtime.

Your skin is instantly refreshed and brighter. Some mild redness may be present immediately after treatment but short in duration. It is a fantastic treatment to prepare your skin for more advanced treatment and aids the absorption of beneficial ingredients from topical products.

Clients with congested skin, enlarged pores, uneven tone and texture, fine facial lines and wrinkles are great candidates for microdermabrasion. Suitable for pregnant women and for young skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Microdermabrasion involve?

Microdermabrasion is performed by using a hand piece that the therapist passes over the skin up to three times. This evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin. The underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes the generation of new collagen, which thickens the dermis and improves resistance to the effects of ageing.

What results can you expect?

You will notice an immediate improvement after your first treatment. Regardless of your skin’s condition, most clients will notice an improvement in their skin’s appearance. Many clients report their skin to be softer, smoother and younger looking immediately after treatment. To get the best results a course of 6 treatments is usually recommended. A period of 2 weeks in between each treatment is required.

How long does the treatment take?

Medical Microdermabrasion treatment takes approximately takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete. When combined with a Skin Peel or other treatments it can take longer.

How often should I have this treatment done?

Many will notice improvements in the texture and appearance of the skin immediately after the first treatment. For maximum results a course of 4-6 Microdermabrasion facial treatments are recommended at 2-4 week intervals.

Is there an alternative type of Microdermabrasion other than 'medical grade'?

Yes. Microdermabrasion machines are manufactured at two different levels: aesthetic-grade and medical-grade. Not to be confused with lower strength microdermabrasion systems where treatments cost significantly less, medical-grade microdermabrasion on the other hand is FDA approved for a deeper exfoliation, which translates into more impressive and lasting results for you. At MEDISKIN we only use Medical-grade Microdermabrasion.

How much does it cost?

Medical Microdermabrasion costs €79 per treatment. Discounts are available on packages with Buy 5 Get 1 Free. Microdermabrasion treatment can also be combined with other treatments for maximum results. The price will increase accordingly if combining other treatments with Microdermabrasion depending on the treatment being performed.

What can I expect from my skin following the treatment?

Following treatment, your skin will initially appear a little pink, dependent on how sensitive your skin is, but this will settle down after a short period of time, usually within half an hour.

How long is the recovery time?

Although some clients experience flakiness of the skin and dry patches for a couple of days following, there is no recovery time necessary with a Microdermabrasion, for this reason it is the treatment of choice in the days leading up to a big event, wedding or special occasion. You could easily have the treatment on your lunch hour.

Who benefits from a microdermabrasion?

The benefits of Microdermabrasion are endless and is one of the most requested non-invasive treatments in our clinic. It is also safe to use on all skin types and a fantastic treatment for anyone who wants their skin to have a healthy luminous glow. However, it is particularly helpful in treating specific skin conditions, including dull, rough texture, congestion, sun damaged and seborrhea (oily skin).

Can microdermabrasion be combined with other treatments?

The beauty about Microdermabrasion is that is actually enhances the results of other skin rejuvenation treatments. Microdermabrasion is also the perfect treatment to combine with a Skin Peel, Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion or Dermalux LED Phototherapy, depending on your skin’s concerns.
